Art direction for the death of love
This project develops the visual universe for a music video by Elena Vargas, where art direction, AI-driven design, and audiovisual creation converge into a single expressive system. Starting from the emotional tone of the track and a minimal set of visual references, the entire narrative is built from scratch — generating worlds, scenes, and atmospheres that expand the artist’s identity beyond the physical.
Rooted in her flamentronic style, the project translates sound into image through contrast, rhythm, and texture. Artificial intelligence becomes not just a tool, but a medium: shaping environments, defining compositions, and enabling a visual storytelling that moves between the organic and the synthetic, the traditional and the futuristic.
THE CONCEPT
The video traces the death of love as a passage, opening on a solitary figure in red suspended within a vast white emptiness, where contrast holds both fragility and tension. From that stillness, a symbolic funeral takes shape: fire, a temple-like space, and anonymous bodies veiled in red moving between devotion and unease.
As emotion builds, structure begins to dissolve. Movement emerges, shifting from contained gestures to something more visceral and instinctive. The sacred gives way to release, culminating in a red-saturated climax where everything blurs — a charged, almost ecstatic state where loss transforms, and love evolves into something else.
THE PROCESS
The process began with just five source images of the artist, used to generate all visual assets through AI. With the concept defined, a storyboard mapped the narrative and rhythm of the piece, guiding each transition and scene. Each shot was then crafted individually — building environments, compositions, and sequences from the ground up to create a cohesive visual narrative driven by mood and progression.
